With the festive season fast approaching, many of us might be blinded by the Christmas lights, holiday spreads, and perfectly-wrapped gifts, often forgetting the true meaning of the season – giving back. Spread some festive cheer to those in need. Whether through organised initiatives or small gestures, every act of kindness helps.
Gift your time by volunteering
Beyond material donations, your time and expertise can be invaluable assets to numerous organisations. Whether it is homeless shelters, local charities, or outreach programmes, volunteers can offer some much-needed extra hands during the holiday season. Reach out to your local NPOs or shelters to find out how you can lend a hand.
Provide support packages
Preparing care package is a simple yet practical way to give back this festive season. A meaningful package doesn’t need to be elaborate; start with the basics such as non-perishable food, toiletries, and everyday household essentials, then add a small festive touch, whether it is a handwritten note, a sweet treat, or warm socks. This small act can bring great comfort.
Support your local animal shelter
Don’t forget our four-legged friends this festive season. Many animal shelters face extra strain over the holidays as donations are depleting while demand is on the rise. A practical way to help is by donating bags of dog or cat food and even treats or specialised diets. Blankets, bowls, and cleaning supplies are just as necessary.
Donate toys and children’s book
Every festive season, the REMAX Foundation hosts The Toy & Book Drive. We’re inviting our communities to donate new or gently loved toys and books; from storybooks and school-readers to puzzles, games, dolls, and age-appropriate playsets. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps create moments of delight and dignity for children in vulnerable circumstances.
Last year, REMAX offices were able to make a valuable difference across South Africa as part of this campaign. Some of the collections included:
· REMAX Coast and Country spread festive cheer through a trampoline donation to District 49 Children and Youth Care Centre.
· REMAX Dazzle brought Santa to 170 children in Sunward Park and Freeway Park, who all received a treat and a gift.
· REMAX Panache filled a car with Christmas presents that were dispersed to the community.
· REMAX Property Professionals had an incredible turn out for the Toy & Book campaign in the Western Cape.
· REMAX Property Associates donated their Toy and Book collection to HOME OF HOPE – a registered non-profit organisation that provides care services for abused, abandoned and neglected children in our country. In total, ten bags of toys were donated.
· REMAX Lagoon Estates handed their Toy & Book Collection to Team Langebaan for distribution to children and families in need within the Langebaan community.
Donations can be dropped off at participating REMAX offices or collection points, and we encourage families, schools, and businesses to get involved by hosting mini drives of their own. Together, we can turn this season’s generosity into lasting smiles and brighter starts for young lives.
