RAISING SUPPORT DURING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

The power of community support is often overlooked until we are met with a medical crisis such as cancer. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, RE/MAX of Southern Africa is calling on the power of their network to raise funds for a national Cancer Support Group, Wing of Hope.

The National Cancer Registry states that Breast Cancer directly affects 1 in every 27 South African women, making it the most common cancer within this demographic. Breast cancer is almost always curable if detected early. Yet, most women still fail to go for regular mammograms and perform self-examinations to check for lumps or irregularities hiding beneath the breast tissue. National Breast Cancer Awareness month exists to spread awareness around early detection and cure.

According to Regional Director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, Adrian Goslett, this month hits close to home for many within the RE/MAX network. “Many of our sales associates have battled through this disease, which makes this a cause that is very dear to our hearts. On 30 October, we will hold our annual RE/MAX National Pink Day where our network of nearly 2,500 agents are invited to gather in small groups at their offices and dress in pink for the day to raise awareness around this very important issue. Beyond this, we encourage each of our associates to donate just R20 to The RE/MAX Foundation. At the end of the month, we will make one lump sum donation on behalf of The RE/MAX Foundation to Wings of Hope,” he explains.

Members of the public are also encouraged to make a donation towards the cause. For banking details, click here. Those within the Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban metropoles who are looking for a support group to help them through their journey towards recovery can visit wingsofhope.org.za.
