MOST EXPENSIVE APARTMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Listed at R170 million, this eight-bedroom beach oasis is currently the most expensive listing available within South Africa. Previously one of the most expensive listings in the country topped out at R150 million for a five-bedroom home in Fresnaye and was marketed by top sales associate, Karryn Cartoulis of RE/MAX Living

Since acquiring the listing in the latter half of 2020, Cartoulis received plenty of interest and two very serious offers on the R150 million home before it was recently sold. She expects similar levels of interest for this new R170 million apartment that has recently been added to her impressive repertoire of luxury listings.

Forged into the cliffside flanking of one of Clifton’s premiere beaches, this R170 million apartment is Eventide’s pièce de resistance. Designed by world-renowned architectural firm, SAOTA, the home presents uninterrupted views across the Atlantic Ocean and 12 Apostles mountain range.

The entrance level of this double story apartment features a state-of-the-art, open-plan “front of house” kitchen with a freestanding island and white marble countertops, as well as a dining and living area surrounded by frameless glass stacking doors. With the doors fully opened, this area becomes an extension of the magnificent outdoor living space. The expansive enclave offers an informal seating area positioned under a timbered lattice overhang, as well as automated awnings which provide ample shade and privacy. Indulge in your very own, private 20m heated lap pool or dine under the stars as the waves lap Clifton’s shoreline mere metres away.

Also on the entrance level is a fully equipped service kitchen with a separate entrance, a laundry area, a glass-enclosed and temperature-controlled wine cellar, two guest powder rooms, as well as two spacious en-suite bedrooms, one of which includes a double steam shower, separate toilet and sumptuous dressing room. Both suites open up onto the outdoor living space.

Moving on to the first floor, here one finds the family residence that includes an additional open-plan chef’s kitchen, lounge and dining area all flowing onto a large entertainment terrace overlooking Clifton’s famed sunsets. The first floor can be partitioned into two separate apartments, each with their own entrances, by activating the automated security shutter. This ensures complete privacy when hosting an event in the main reception area.

The luxurious master suite offers a plush dressing room and an enclosed bathroom that can become a steam room at the touch of a button. There are an additional three elegantly decorated spacious en-suite bedrooms. The gym, with its own en-suite bathroom and built-in cupboards, could potentially be used as a fifth bedroom if required.

Additional extras include an en-suite pyjama lounge or playroom with a gas fireplace; an elevated nook with a heated plunge pool and built-in seating area; and a luxurious open-plan study replete with a seating area and gas fireplace. Not to mention the direct access to the very exclusive Moses beach, a communal pool (in addition to two private swimming pools), secure underground parking for seven cars, a storeroom and 24/7 security and concierge on site. Surrounding the apartment are automated roll down, security shutters which close off and shield the home at the touch of a button.
