Zero-Tolerance Stance on Gender-Based Violence

*Updated 18/08/2020

It has recently been brought to our attention that a reported incident of gender-based violence has been alleged against one of our agents, Jarryd Philips, in his personal capacity. In view of this, RE/MAX of Southern Africa would like to clearly stipulate its zero-tolerance stance towards gender-based violence.

“RE/MAX SA stands firmly against and does not tolerate violence, particularly against women and children. We have immediately suspended the agent’s services and removed him from the RE/MAX websites and systems on the same day that this was reported to us,” explains Regional Director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, Adrian Goslett.

Jarryd Phillips was contracted to RE/MAX Living, an independently owned and operated franchise. On the afternoon of 15 August 2020, RE/MAX SA was alerted (for the first time) of an alleged assault by Jarryd Phillips via its social media pages that is said to have taken place in 2019. This is the first time a report of this nature has been raised with RE/MAX SA in any forum.

“RE/MAX of Southern Africa categorically states that it did not write, send nor authorize the sending of any letters of any kind to Miss Reynolds. Neither are we in possession of any letters from Miss Reynolds or her attorneys. The first time that RE/MAX of Southern Africa was made aware of this incident was Saturday afternoon, 15 August, via a social media post. This incident has never been reported to us, the franchisor. Mr Phillips was removed from the system on the same day. We have not seen the contents of these letters and are therefore not in a position to comment on their contents. We will, however, attempt to get copies of this correspondence.”

RE/MAX SA has also since learned that the matter is sub-judice as legal proceedings have been instituted by both parties. RE/MAX SA will continue to investigate this matter and will take any further appropriate action in accordance with the outcome of the investigation.

Ending, Goslett reiterates that violence of any kind goes against what the brand stands for and will not be tolerated within the organization. “RE/MAX has always and will always stand with all who stand against and/or have been victims of gender based violence and any form of violence,” he concludes.
