5 AFFORDABLE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR SPACE FEEL LIKE NEW

After spending our days confined within the four walls we call home, our once cosy spaces can easily start to feel more like a prison than a place of safety. Whether you’re working from home or homeschooling, you may want to change up your environment to help boost your mood and keep you motivated.

Luckily, reinventing your space doesn’t have to break the bank. Channel your inner interior designer with these affordable ways to make your space feel like new.

Clear the clutter and organise your space
You’d be amazed at how different a space can feel simply by decluttering and organising. To start, go through all your drawers and create piles for the things you’ll keep, the things you’ll donate (e.g. old clothing, blankets, or shoes), and the things you’ll throw away. Once you’ve decluttered, regain some sense of control by organising your cupboards. To make your wardrobes feel more spacious, swap out your summer clothing for your winter clothing. You can also cut up cereal boxes to create different compartments to organise the knick-knacks that fill your drawers.

Change is as good as a holiday
A simple way to reinvent your space is to change the décor of each room. Replace your old designs with new ones, maybe even try a colour scheme you’ve never tried before. If you’re low on cash, try swapping items like your curtains, rugs, scatter cushions from one room into the other. You can even try moving your furniture around. Something as small as placing your bed against a different wall can make all the difference to your room’s energy. Save yourself the hassle of moving heavy furniture by drawing up a floor plan on which to play around first.

Upgrade your four walls
Try a fresh coat of paint or give wallpaper a try. If you’re feeling adventurous, try an accent wall or just paint the door – it’ll be easier on your pockets as you’ll need less paint. The simple addition of wall art, whether it be a gallery wall of family photos, a piece of minimalist art, or even some useful shelving, can really reinvigorate the space.

Change your lighting
Create a new glow to your home by switching out your light bulbs. Especially now that Winter is approaching, the right lighting can do wonders to lift the mood of your home. Soft white bulbs give off a warm, yellow light that makes a space feel cozy and are well suited for living rooms and bedrooms. Warm white bulbs give off a more yellowish-white glow and work well in kitchens and bathrooms. Bright white bulbs are between white and blue tones and are best suited for a home office or garage. Daylight bulbs have a more bluish tone that will maximize contrast, making it the best option for spaces in which you do a lot of reading or applying makeup.

Plants are the new pets
Now that we can’t get outside much, adding a splash of greenery is an affordable way to bring the outside in. House plants also add an extra bit of life to the space. The responsibility to take care of your plants and make sure they stay alive can give you a sense of purpose, which can be really helpful if you find yourself in an emotionally challenging place.

Final advice
You don’t have to spend a fortune to revamp your space. Sometimes small changes can make a big difference. However, if you’ve tried reinventing your home but it’s still not bringing you the energy of a new space, it may just be time to start the search for your new home.
