THE SEYCHELLES ISLANDS

Seychelles, is a pristine island republic in the western Indian Ocean, comprising 115 islands, with lush tropical vegetation, beautiful beaches, rated as some of the finest on the planet, and a wide variety of marine and other animal life. Situated between latitudes 4° and 11° S and longitudes 46° and 56° E, the major islands of Seychelles are located about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) east of Kenya and about 700 miles (1,100 km) northeast of Madagascar. The highest point in Seychelles, Morne Seychellois (2,969 feet [905 metres]), situated on Mahé, is located within this mountainous island group. The coralline islands, rising only a few feet above sea level, are flat with elevated coral reefs at different stages of formation. These islands are largely waterless, and very few have a resident population.
