Walmer Estate is situated on the slopes of Devil’s Peak and neighbours the suburbs of Devil’s Peak and University Estate. Located between the Eastern Boulevard (N2) and De Waal Drive, this unassuming yet very attractive suburb has as its major landmark, the large Garden Court Hotel, which kind of stands out in what is essentially a low-rise part of town.
Walmer Estate has none of the usual features expected of a desirable neighbourhood. There are no “A-list” schools, no major retail outlets, no gyms and sociably sought after coffee shops. There is not much to speak of in the form of public transport. And yes, it is for those reasons that Walmer Estate is so desirable, and so popular that its residents hardly ever want to leave.
Walmer Estate inhabitants will be the first to tell you that all the shops and amenities they need. All the schools and yuppie-type coffee shops, restaurants and pubs are not far away at all, should they be needed.
