VALHALLA
The suburb of Valhalla, historically offered off-base accommodation to military personnel stationed at the then Voortrekkerhoogte, (now Thaba Tshwane), and the surrounding bases, including The SA Air Force Gymnasium and Zwartkop Air Force base. It is bordered by Thaba Tshwane, the SANDF nature reserve and the Old Johannesburg road. This gives Valhalla residents easy access to the Centurion municipal area and the N1 motorway. The general appearance is that of a small town, and although there are some sectional title developments in the suburb, they are not typical of the area.
Properties in the suburb of Valhalla comprise largely farmstyle family dwellings of between 250 and 400m² on spacious plots of between 1500 and 2750m². The suburb of Valhalla is predominantly inhabited by the middle income group.
Valhalla is unique, by virtue of the fact that it is rich in military history and is surrounded by military museums, e.g., The SAAF Air Force Museum at the Zwartkop Air Force base, and the Air Force memorial, and is in close proximity to the Voortrekker Monument. Also close by is the Montague Kneen Park.
Properties in Valhalla are served by a regular bus service, a post office which offers door to door postal delivery, a police station, and all the standard amenities, and the roads are in excellent condition.
Valhalla real estate owners and residents can expect to find several medical facilities including a pharmacy and doctors’ rooms as well as One Military hospital in Thaba Tshwane, Unitas Hospital in Lyttleton and Saxby Medical Clinic in Eldoraigne.
Commercial facilities include banks, supermarkets, petrol stations and three smaller, privately run shopping centres which offer motor spares shops, a butchery, a bakery and several restaurants/pubs.
Valhalla boasts excellent education facilities, including Valhalla Primary, Zwartkop Laerskool and a Christian school attached to one of the churches. Secondary schools are all located in the surrounding suburbs of Zwartkop (these include Zwartkop Hoërskool, Eldoraigne Hoërskool and Sutherland High School).
Sports facilities include a tennis club, a baseball diamond, an indoor cricket facility and the suburb even has its own darts and pool leagues.
Certainly a place well worth the consideration of a serious property investor.
