Midrand suburb

MIDRAND

Midrand is located in central Gauteng, midway – as its name suggests – between Johannesburg and Pretoria, alongside the N1 highway.  It was established as a municipality in its own right in 1981, and was incorporated into the Johannesburg Metropole towards the end of the last millennium.

Despite no longer being an independent town, the name Midrand is still used to denote the suburbs around the N1 highway north of the Jukskei River up to the border with the Pretoria metropole.  Midrand is home to the world famous Kyalami Race Track, formerly used to host the South African Formula 1 Grand Prix.  It is also the suburb where Gallagher Estate is situated – the historic venue where the new political dispensation for South Africa, post apartheid, was negotiated, at the famous CODESA (Congress for a Democratic South Africa).

Midrand is made up of several suburbs, including Beaulieu, Blue Hills, Carlswald, Glen Austin, Glenferness, Halfway House. Randjiesfontein, Kyalami and several others.  All these suburbs are well served by the major routes between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and they all offer Midrand citizens a wide variety of living options, from freestanding generously sized plots with large houses, to secure villages and complexes, as well as cluster homes, apartments and townhouse complexes.  The Midrand district also boasts country residential estates, beautiful parklands as well as several smallholdings – particularly in the Randjiesfontein area – a suburb also known for horseracing. Halfway House gets its name from its actual location, halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria – and is the central point of the greater Midrand region.

Real Estate owners and investors in Midrand are spoilt for choice insofar as excellent value for money properties are concerned, and whether you are a first-time home buyer or a retiree in search of a smaller, more manageable property, there is likely to be something for you in Midrand.

In addition to outstanding value in property, real estate investors also benefit from excellent modern infrastructure and more than adequate amenities and municipal services.  There is a wealth of good schools available to choose from, and shopping malls and retail outlets abound throughout the suburbs of Midrand. Likewise, the medical profession is well catered for, and plenty medical and dental practices, combined with modern day clinics complement a choice of top class private hospitals located throughout Midrand and its environs.
In addition, Midrand is also home to a large and established industrial area, especially large scale industry such as textiles and motor vehicles.

A superbly located business venue, Midrand is largely regarded as an accurate reflection of current economic expansion in Gauteng, and its satellite suburbs are indeed well located and good examples of the overall growth being experienced by Midrand.
