Leisure Island
Leisure Island is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Garden Route. Surrounded on all sides by the waters of a tidal estuary, it is one of the two island suburbs of Knysna, and is separated from the mainland by a causeway.
Property on Leisure Island ranges from luxury homes, exclusive guesthouses and upmarket boutique lodges, to charming cottages, holiday homes and upmarket sectional title apartments.
It can be best described as an upper income suburb.
Leisure Island boasts an art gallery, a fine dining restaurant, a small boat harbour and its own nature reserve teeming with a variety of birdlife. The main swimming spots on Leisure Island are Bollard Bay (when the tide is sufficiently high), the Hippo Pool along Cearn Drive, and the Green Hole on the eastside of the Island, as well as Land\'s End and Kingfisher Creek at the north-western tip.
Leisure Island covers an area of four kilometres, and offers recreational activities for all ages. Walking, cycling, swimming, sailing and fishing are all popular pastimes with tennis, bowls, golf and scuba diving on the Island or close by.
Knysna Private Hospital situated in Hunters Estate, only three kilometers away, serves the residents of Leisure Island medically. There are a number of highly regarded medical practitioners and specialists within the facility. Leisure Island is about seven kilometres from the Knysna Provincial Hospital.
Residents of Leisure Island with schoolgoing children are served by several good schools in Knysna town. There are also several nursery schools, play schools and after school care centres situated in the town, only a few minutes drive away.
Leisure Island offers its residents plenty of outdoor activities, sports facilities and of course watersport.
