Lansdowne suburb

LANSDOWNE

The suburb of Lansdowne (a mere 10km south of Cape Town) was established in the 1920s, and was once part of the greater Claremont area.  Over the decades however, it has grown and developed into a fully fledged suburb in its own right, and today boasts a veritable mix of residential and commercial property.  Prior to this development Lansdowne was once farmland. The suburb got its name from the famous Lansdowne Road, which used to be the access route to these farmlands which stretched across the length and breadth of the Cape Flats.

Lansdowne is well located and provides easy access to most of the main routes leading to the city, as well as to the southern part of Cape Town, in the direction of Muizenberg. The M5 motorway is the main access route to and from Lansdowne, whilst Lansdowne Road links the suburb with the Claremont area, while Racecourse Road links it with Kenilworth Centre – a major shopping mall which serves the entire area.

Property dwellers in Lansdowne are also well served with public transport, via an effective bus service as well as the well established suburban rail network.
