Property in Langebaan
Langebaan is an idyllic small seaside town situated along the west coast of South Africa, in the Western Cape Province. It is nestled on the edge of the tranquil Langebaan Lagoon, a mere 120km from the Mother City (Cape Town). Langebaan is affectionately known as the jewel among west coast towns, and it will leave you with memories of a stunningly blue Atlantic Ocean, acre upon acre of breathtakingly beautiful spring flowers, and the ever enticing aromas of fish braais (barbecues) for which Langebaan is widely renowned.
Early Cape Colonial settlers were drawn to Langebaan and the first house was built there in 1820 by one William Smith. The Governor of the Cape, Lord Charles Somerset also built a hunting cabin in Langebaan, on the farm known as Oostewal, before Langebaan became officially established in 1870 and gets its name from the meandering dirt road which meanders its way to Lynch Point behind the sand dunes.
Property investors and residents can choose from a wide variety of real estate options, including vacant plots, free standing homes, waterfront properties, smallholdings, apartments, duplexes as well as commercial properties.
The town of Langebaan caters essentially for the middle and upper income groups, and is home to a large community of retired residents, as well as many holiday home owners. Among Langebaan’s major attractions and special features, are its stunning beaches, the vast open green belts, the West Coast Nature Reserve and of course the lagoon and a fossil park.
Langebaan offers property owners and dwellers an impressive infrastructure, with all the regular amenities, including a library, a caravan park, a post office and a selection of hotels, B&Bs, and a delectable array of outstanding restaurants. One of the other major attractions in Langebaan is the well-known Mykonos Casino Resort.
Educationally Langebaan is also well served, with private schools, a primary level state school and pre-primary schooling available.
Commercially Langebaan has a few shopping malls, between them offering all the popular shops and banks, butcheries and liquor stores, and the major petrol stations and convenience stores. Within a 25km radius there is both a private and a state hospital serving the people of Langebaan.
In addition to awesome real estate, Langebaan property owners and dwellers have access to a smorgasbord of leisure activities and facilities, including two 18 hole golf courses, tennis courts, bowling greens, gyms, football fields, angling and a variety of watersports. Game viewing and quad-biking are also options, with many more activities to suit all tastes.
Langebaan could be accurately described as a “world in one town”, and it is not at all surprising that this wonderful west coast jewel is so sought after, by investors from around the country, and indeed the world.
