Fresnaye suburb

The city of Cape Town is a coveted location for its situation, natural scenery and properties. It seems everybody wants a property in Cape Town and especially in a suburb like Fresnaye.

In all cities around the world, there are always suburbs like Fresnaye that remain in demand. This is because suburbs like Fresnaye take up the best part of a city. Gaining access to a property here makes life more enjoyable and easier. Undoubtedly, owning a property or more properties in this suburb is an asset.

Fresnaye properties aren’t just an asset because they are homes. A property in this part of the city is a status symbol. When it comes to buying or renting properties a good address adds instant value as does Fresnaye.

This area closely rubs shoulders with its neighbouring suburbs. Yet Fresnaye property owners value its individuality by choosing to keep historical avenues rather than ordinary streets. A Fresnaye address is immediately recognizable because the avenues have French names.

History of Fresnaye

It is no coincidence that the properties of Fresnaye are situated in avenues named after places in France. Interestingly, all the land that makes up this special suburb and its properties was owned by a French aristocratic family named Le Sueur. This family fled religious persecution in France and made a safe haven of what would become Fresnaye. Their property in France was in Beyeux, Normandy Fresnaye.

This event took place in 1739 and today, a property in this location, is still regarded as a haven nestled against Lions Head. Those who own properties in the elite suburb of Constantia, may be surprised the Le Sueur’s, founding family of Fresnaye, also had close ties to the Cape’s first vineyards, Groot Constantia. They married into the Bergh family who once owned that estate. There is also a link to the historical town of Tulbagh. A Le Sueur daughter married Governor Rijk Tulbagh.

Contemporary Fresnaye

As always, the numerous properties are set between Lions Head and the Atlantic Ocean. This does not mean each property in Fresnaye has a rolling view. Many properties in the suburb of Fresnaye have both mountain and sea views. This is especially so of the super-modern mansions built high up on the mountain or a property that is a top floor flat. Many properties that don’t have a mountain or sea view have a garden view.

Fresnaye is a well-established suburb and its properties are a mix of buildings from every decade. Buyers come to Fresnaye to find a Victorian property, art deco flat or a property that is totally contemporary. The facades of many period properties are already fully and carefully refurbished to the highest standards. Fresnaye is regarded as part of the Atlantic Seaboard’s ‘Millionaire’s Mile’. This is due to the high value of most of its properties.

However, it is still possible to find charming cottages and studio flats in the prestigious suburb of Fresnaye. It’s becoming less frequent to find a reasonably priced property that requires refurbishment. Regardless of what the property market does, Fresnaye properties remain in demand.

It’s hard to establish exactly who is drawn to own a property here. Like the architecture of its properties, there is a solid mix of inhabitants. Everything of necessity and importance is within walking distance. This includes schools, places of worship, shops, small shopping centres, restaurants, coffee shops, cafes, art galleries, florists, bakeries, boutiques, toyshops, video outlets, banks, post office, garages and more. It may be necessary to drive down from a home high up on the mountainside but there’s hardly any reason to leave Fresnaye.

This area is sought-after by young families, retired couples and singles. It would be safe to say Fresnaye property owners are sophisticated. They enjoy having their properties only a few minutes drive by car or shuttle from the world famous V&A working harbour. This destination is used for luxury shopping and socializing.

A quick walk from the majority of properties in Fresnaye takes you to a nearby beach. The very best beaches are a few minutes drive away in the trendy suburbs of Clifton and Camps Bay. Almost all property owners along the entire Atlantic Seaboard regard each of its close little suburbs as one big happy family.

It’s because all the suburbs around Fresnaye are small seaside suburbs that there is still a village character to each of them. Fresnaye retains the charm of the seaside but its close proximity to the mountain and luxurious gardens also give a French country feel to the suburb’s properties.

With regularity there are new families and singles moving into a carefully chosen property in Fresnaye. However, many of them have been living here all their lives. Elderly residents live happily alongside growing families, teens and trendy singles. This suburb and its properties have an atmosphere of permanence and self-renewal.

Young and old enjoy having the attractive and well-maintained art deco pavilion as a place to meet, sunbathe and swim in the Olympic swimming pool. Like previous generations of Fresnaye, they regularly walk or run along the promenade. They have the fresh blue sea one side and beachfront properties on the other while safely getting exercise and fresh air. There is a constant flurry of activity along the promenade in both directions to Bantry Bay and Mouille Point.

Another great benefit of many a property owner is the easy entrances to the mountain. A favourite pastime for many who own properties in Fresnaye is walking on the beautiful green mountainside. It provides exercise for residents and their dogs as well as providing spectacular views of the ocean, seaboard and the nearby city centre.

It is from this vantage point that the diversity of the properties in Fresnaye can be fully appreciated. So can the excellent upkeep of the lush, manicured gardens and sparkling swimming pools of every individual property.

The charm of Fresnaye is its well-established air of permanence and close proximity to other seaside suburbs, bustling city and upmarket harbour. It’s a suburb that accommodates the needs of all age groups with grace. This makes every property sought-after. There’s no doubt that properties in Fresnaye add value to your lifestyle and your fixed asset/s.
