Interestingly, all the land that makes up this special suburb and its properties was owned by a French aristocratic family named Le Sueur. This family fled religious persecution in France and made a safe haven of what would become Fresnaye. Their property in France was in Beyeux, Normandy Fresnaye.
This event took place in 1739 and today, a property in this location, is still regarded as a haven nestled against Lions Head. Those who own properties in the elite suburb of Constantia, may be surprised the Le Sueur’s, founding family of Fresnaye, also had close ties to the Cape’s first vineyards, Groot Constantia. They married into the Bergh family who once owned that estate. There is also a link to the historical town of Tulbagh. A Le Sueur daughter married Governor Rijk Tulbagh.
Contemporary Fresnaye
As always, the numerous properties are set between Lions Head and the Atlantic Ocean. This does not mean each property in Fresnaye has a rolling view.
