Named after the Word War 1 commander-in-chief of the allied forces in France, Ferdinand Foch, the town and surrounds feature a number of ancient Sotho and Tswana ruins as well as the site where Boer War hero, Danie Theron, was killed. The Theron Memorial is set 8km west of the town. Another historical attraction worth visiting is The Borehole – a site where in the early mining days the Western Deep Levels mines struck a steam of sulphurous water; a stream which to this day gushes out of the borehole with gusto.
