Fish Hoek suburb

The beautiful seaside suburb of Fish Hoek is situated half way down the Cape’s Southern Peninsula between Simon’s Town and Kalk Bay. Fish Hoek is almost entirely encircled by mountains which makes this area very picturesque. Residents can enjoy the fact that they live in a quiet, safe seaside village, yet only forty minutes away from the bright city lights.

Property in Fish Hoek offers the potential buyer a wide range of options. Real estate in the area varies from smallish flats which are within walking distance of the beach, to large mountainside apartments with stunning sea views.  The mountainside homes are divided into three classifications:

The “front” mountain has huge homes with spectacular sea views from above the ocean.  Some of these are old family homes still in their original state but some are the best type of property – the old home lovingly restored and improved.

The “middle” mountain also has predominantly large homes but the view is more distant and so the prices are more affordable.

The “back” mountain has distant sea views and sometimes views of both the Fish Hoek and the Noordhoek side. There are also some stunning apartments with lovely sea views on the back mountain. Fish Hoek is famous for its excellent retirement village known as Peers Village and adjacent to Peers Village is the suburb of Peers Hill.

Fish Hoek offers the potential real estate investor a very diverse group of residents, from retired people to successful business people, and the area reflects a wide range of the middle and upper income group.

Fish Hoek is located a couple of kilometres from the Cape Point Nature Reserve, and also has various stunning beaches on its doorstep. Fish Hoek is also home to various festivals including Penguins, kites, sports life-saving and more.

The area offers a good road network, with easy access to Cape Town, and to the southern suburbs on the other side. Fish Hoek has everything from a Civic Centre to the excellent False Bay Hospital. There is also a Drivers licensing department, a good police station, an excellent library.

Fish Hoek offers excellent private doctors and the False Bay Hospital has a good reputation. The area also offers a free service called Emergency Control Centre, which if the number is dialled, will by means of radio get a fast response from Fire or Police or Ambulance or whatever emergency service is required if the victim is unable to help themselves. (There is also a Home Nursing Service in Fish Hoek, for those who require care at home).

Properties in the area are close to a selection of restaurants and coffee shops. There is also a craft market on weekends. The small town shops are often referred to as “The Village” shops and these include leading chain stores.  Anything but a liquor store can be found, as Fish Hoek is one of a limited number of “dry” suburbs in Cape Town where liquor stores are not permitted. This is believed to contribute significantly to Fish Hoek’s safety reputation.

Fish Hoek’s Primary, Middle and Senior Schools offer excellent educational facilities in the area. There are also a number of good private schools not far away.

Fish Hoek offers its resident golf, fishing, sailing, croquet, mountain walks, bowls and tennis to name but a few. It is also home to the University of the Third Age and all its clubs and societies. The Craft Club is popular and so too is the Gardening Club, Gym Club, library and music society.
