Brackenhurst suburb

BRACKENHURST

The suburb of Brackenhurst has been in existence for around a quarter of a century. A typically suburban and family oriented area, Brackenhurst is close to the city of Alberton. It is the kind of suburb where people tend to reside for several years, and Brackenhurst is ideally suited to families who prefer to settle down and call home for the duration of their childrens’ upbringing and beyond.  Although Brackenhurst is a predominantly Afrikaans-speaking area, it has both Afrikaans and English language schools, both at primary and high school level. The Alberton Technical College, as well as several smaller places of learning are all in close proximity to Brackenhurst.

Brackenhurst consists mainly of freestanding houses, erected on large stands (average size 1500m²). It is an area with several townhouse complexes, and whilst many of these are not very new, they are generous in size, and well built.  The area also has a wide choice of guest houses.
It could be primarily regarded as a middle class suburb, with property prices ranging between R500k and R1,2m.

Brackenhurst is an excellent place for outdoor activity, and boasts a wide selection of sports facilities, including bowling and tennis clubs, swimming facilities, and a selection of gyms.  As regards entertainment and leisure, Brackenhurst has many pubs and restaurants, and is also home to the Rietvlei Zoo and the Jackson Dam – popular venues for locals and visitors alike.

Brackenhurst is fortunate to have a good municipal service, and its wide streets are generally well maintained and clean.

Medical facilities and pharmacies also abound in Brackenhurst, with several doctors and dentists rooms spread throughout the area, whilst the clinics and hospitals in neighbouring Alberton and Mulbarton are utilized by Brackenhurst residents. Brackenhurst is also well served commercially, with several shopping centres interspersed throughout the suburb, and easy access to the larger malls such as Alberton City, The Glen, Bedford Centre and even Eastgate.

Brackenhurst is, by all accounts, a typically well structured and regular middle class suburb, offering all that a resident would require for comfortable and relaxed living.  The fact that families tend to move in and stay put suggests that Brackenhurst is an ideal place to live.
