ALLENS NEK
Allens Nek is one of the many smaller satellite suburbs of Roodepoort, a major suburb of Johannesburg, situated to the extreme north-west of South Africa’s largest city. As part of the major growth and development of the Greater Roodepoort region, Allens Nek is still a relatively new suburb, bordered by several other suburbs which form part of the area.
Allens Nek is predominantly residential; however there is some space for commerce, with small businesses and retail outlets along the major routes that service the suburb. Allens Nek is a very well planned suburb, and together with most of its fellow-satellite suburbs, it forms part of Johannesburg’s large man-made forest. Its close proximity to both the Johannesburg city centre and Sandton, make it a very popular suburb in which to reside. Yet it is close enough to the Magaliesburg to ensure that it retains its countryside atmosphere. Allens Nek is served by one highway, namely the N1 Western Bypass, which connects it with Sandton and Pretoria to the north and with Roodepoort and Soweto to the south. The M5 arterial route (Beyers Naude Drive) links Allens Nek with the inner city.
Allens Nek is educationally well served with a number of excellent public and private schools. All the necessary amenities are present in Allens Nek, and shopping is well catered for by some major shopping malls, excellent restaurants a museum, country lodges, country clubs, and hiking trails through the beautiful Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens. There are also a number of smaller convenience shopping centres scattered all over Allens Nek. The Wilgeheuwel and Olivedale Private Hospitals as well as the Flora Clinic are the main hospitals serving Allens Nek, but its close proximity to Sandton and the city make Sandton Medi Clinic and the Johannesburg General Hospital equally accessible.
Allens Nek is close to a number of excellent golf clubs, most notably Roodepoort’s popular Eagle Canyon Golf Estate for those who prefer the golfing way of life, and it has a wide range of quality properties ranging from townhouse developments to large, modern freestanding houses, and security villages too.
